This training is designed to equip mediators with insights and skills for understanding and addressing the complex psychological dilemmas faced by children and parents following separation or divorce. Participants will examine the impact of family dynamics on mental well-being, particularly focusing on non-resident fathers’ experiences and the challenges they face in parenting post-separation, as well as the psychological effects on children and mothers in similar situations.

Key topics include:

  • Understanding Psychological Impact: Insights into how separation affects children and both parents, with particular attention to the mental and emotional challenges encountered by non-resident fathers and the effects on family dynamics.
  • Latest Research and Systemic Intervention Models: A review of the latest research in divorce and separation, alongside systemic models of intervention that can be integrated into mediators’ existing skill sets. These models are tailored to support mediators in working effectively with clients experiencing high levels of anxiety, stress, or conflict.
  • Systemic Questioning and Conflict De-escalation Techniques: Practical exercises on systemic questioning skills to deepen client engagement and facilitate conflict resolution. Participants will explore family therapy frameworks to help manage and de-escalate heightened emotions and conflict.

This interactive training uses a combination of lectures, video materials, role-playing, and case studies to provide a hands-on approach, ensuring mediators can immediately apply systemic theory and practice to their work.
