Trainer: Venetia Tosswill

This course is recommended for all WTA’s.

This session introduces the definition of domestic abuse under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and looks into the detail of what this covers and what it means for clients.  It sets out the legal framework for the protective orders available to victims of domestic abuse with a particular focus on occupation orders and non-molestation orders.   It considers some practical aspects of applying for these orders and also briefly considers the interaction between private Children Act proceedings and allegations of domestic abuse.

Week 2: Navigating Domestic Abuse: Insights for Family Mediators on Identification, Support, and Safeguarding (6th November)

Trainers: Claire Webb and Helen Savage

This course is recommended for all who have attended Module 4 week 1 or are more experienced mediators.

We’ll explore how to recognise the patterns and behaviours of domestic abuse, understand its impact on victims and children, and identify signs that can help you determine who is the victim and who is the perpetrator. We’ll also cover key questions such as: should you begin or continue mediation in these circumstances? When is it appropriate to report concerns? The session will include guidance on safeguarding, signposting to support services, and looking after your own wellbeing as a professional.

Please note: the courses are interactive courses, cameras will be expected to be turned on to ensure you and other participants benefit as much as possible from the course.
