Solution Focused Mediation
Trainer: Chris Iveson
Solution Focused Practice whilst initially developed as a therapy is now increasingly being applied in coaching, mentoring, leadership and in mediation. This one day programme will offer participants the opportunity to explore the approach, the way that it conceptualises as well as the key elements of practice.
Solution Focus is an approach to ‘change talk’ which concentrates on developing new possibilities rather than on exploring ‘stuckness’. It fits well with the shift towards ideas of empowerment and partnership and is, by definition, sensitive to differences of culture and identity.
Solutions are developed through two key conversational processes. The first focuses on the future, people’s ‘best hopes’, the futures that they are wishing to build for themselves and their families, whilst the second explores and elaborates everything present in people’s lives that fits with the emergence of this ‘preferred future’. Put to work in the most difficult of situations Solution Focus is proving to be flexible, effective, efficient, and to have a real capacity for building cooperation.
This lively and active workshop will introduce participants to the discipline and techniques of solution focused working with an inter-linked use of recorded clips, exercises, presentation and discussion.
